I am a UNIX Engineer by profession – I simply don’t “do” Windows – period.
My home desktop and laptop OS choice has been some flavour of Linux since late 2001 – with the notable exception of my MacBook, which is effectively another UNIX, an offshoot of another UNIX OS I love, FreeBSD.
There is something eminently pleasing about *nix, configuring it – something tangible and real – one can feel what is going on.
Windows just doesn’t give me that pleasure.
I’m not even going to start my tirade on the “error” messages that Windows doesn’t produce when something fails – “Error 0x12345” is complete rubbish….. “Service X failed because file Y isn’t readable” – is such a better, more understandable, and more importantly *relevant* error message – it makes *fixing* the problem *that* much easier…. fixing issues shouldn’t have to rely on witchcraft and incantations to Microsoft for a translation.
